If I had a dollar for every time someone told me I have “the patience of a saint,” I could probably treat us all to coffee and dessert. It’s funny, because while I take it as a compliment, there are plenty of moments where I don’t feel patient at all. I’ve had my share of silent “hurry up already” prayers, deep sighs, and moments where I’m tempted to roll my eyes so far back they might never return, and yet, somehow, I stick it out. I wait. I keep showing up, and honestly? That’s where the magic of patience lives.
Patience Isn’t About Being Perfectly Calm
People often think patience means you’re a Zen master, gliding through life without a care in the world. Nope. Patience is messy sometimes. It’s sitting in the waiting room of life, tapping your foot under the chair, but still staying in the room. It’s wanting to fast-forward through the hard chapters but choosing to read them anyway, because deep down, you trust the ending will be worth it. The truth is, you don’t have to like the waiting. You just have to believe it’s leading you somewhere worth going.
What “Patience of a Saint” Really Looks Like
Here’s my secret, it’s not that I never get frustrated, it’s that I’ve learned to keep showing up through it.
Patience for me looks like:
-
Taking a deep breath instead of snapping back.
-
Giving someone space to grow without rushing their personal process.
-
Trusting the seeds that I’ve planted in life, love, and work, will bloom in their own season.
-
Letting go of the urge to control every outcome! This was the hardest one for me.
-
Choosing grace over urgency.
It’s the quiet strength to hold space for something or someone, even when you have no control over the outcome.
The Fairy Tale Version of Patience
If patience were a fairy, she wouldn’t be just sitting around waiting for her wings to dry. She’d be decorating her little mushroom home, tending to the flowers, humming her favourite tune. She wouldn’t be thinking about how long the it’s taking because she’d be living while she waits! I love thinking of patience in this way, and honestly, that’s the kind of patience I try to have. Not the kind where you stop living until things change, but the kind where you keep making the in-between beautiful.
What Patience Has Taught Me
Patience is Love in Disguise - When you’re patient with someone (including yourself), you’re showing them love without a clock running out. Patience Protects Your Peace - The more I let things unfold in their own time, the less I burn myself out trying to force them. Patience Strengthens Your Self-Esteem - Every time I wait with grace, I’m reminding myself that I trust me and I trust my own timing. Patience Makes the Present Worthwhile - Instead of waiting for life to “start” when something happens, I’ve learned to find joy in the now.
The “Patience of a Saint” 5-Step Challenge
A gentle way to practice patience in your everyday life
-
Breathe Before Reacting
When something tests you, pause for three slow breaths before responding. -
Find One Thing to Enjoy in the Wait
Waiting for the water to boil? Put on a song you love. Waiting for news? Read a chapter of a good book. -
Change the Question
Instead of “When will this happen?” try “What can I do right now to make life feel good?” -
Give Someone Else Grace
Offer patience to someone today — whether it’s a slow cashier, a child learning something new, or a friend who’s late. -
Celebrate Your Wins
At the end of the day, notice one moment where you showed patience and give yourself credit for it.
Your Pinkicing Reminder: Patience isn’t about perfection. It’s about believing that life’s timing is your timing and that is unfolding exactly as it should. In the meantime,I strongly sugges that you make the wait beautiful.
Cheers,
