Cleaning Our Energy (In Every Way That Matters)

Published on 27 January 2026 at 14:05

Yesterday was the United Nations International Day of Clean Energy, a day that invites us to think about how clean, reliable energy supports healthier communities around the world. And while clean energy usually makes us think about solar panels, wind power, and sustainability, I couldn’t help but feel into another meaning of the word energy. Because energy isn’t just something that powers our homes. It’s something that lives inside us, too. Our bodies are energetic systems. Our thoughts carry frequency. Our emotions leave imprints. Our nervous systems store experiences.

As a certified Reiki Master, I see this all the time: people aren’t just tired physically. They’re energetically overloaded. Holding too much. Giving too much. Processing too much. So what if this day was also a gentle invitation to clean our internal energy field, the same way we try to care for the planet? Not in a “fix yourself” way. In a return-to-yourself way.

10 Ways to Clear Your Energy & Create a Healthier Energy Field

These are simple, real-life practices rooted in Reiki, nervous system regulation, and self-awareness. No perfection required. Just presence.

1. Begin the day by grounding into your body

Before you reach for your phone, place one hand on your heart and one on your belly. Take three slow breaths and silently say “I am here. I am safe in my body.” This grounds your energy into the present moment and signals your nervous system that it’s okay to soften.

2. Set an energetic intention for the day

In Reiki, intention directs energy. Instead of waking up in reaction mode, try choosing a frequency for the day: peace, patience, ease, compassion. Your energy field responds to what you consciously choose to embody.

3. Clear emotional residue from the day before

We carry yesterday’s stress in our bodies, shoulders, jaw, stomach, and hips. Gently stretch or shake your arms and legs while imagining old energy releasing back into the earth. This helps prevent emotional buildup from turning into chronic tension.

4. Protect your energy with boundaries

Energetic hygiene is just as important as physical hygiene. When you constantly overextend, your aura becomes porous and depleted. Boundaries are not walls; they are filters. They allow in what nourishes and block what drains.

5. Use your breath as an energy cleanser

Your breath is one of your most powerful Reiki tools. Slow, intentional breathing activates the parasympathetic nervous system and moves stagnant energy. Try inhaling light… and exhaling anything heavy.

6. Hydrate your energy field

Water conducts energy. Dehydration leads to energetic fatigue, brain fog, and emotional overwhelm. When you drink water, imagine it cleansing not just your cells, but your emotional body too.

7. Release energy through gentle movement

Stored stress lives in the body. Reiki works beautifully with movement because both support energetic flow. Walk, sway, stretch, or dance, not for fitness, but for the circulation of life force.

8. Clean your physical space

Your environment holds energy. Clutter, old objects, and chaotic spaces anchor old emotional frequencies. Clearing even one drawer can create a noticeable energetic shift. As within, so without.

9. Speak to yourself with loving awareness

Your inner dialogue shapes your energy field. Harsh self-talk creates contraction. Compassion creates expansion. Every time you speak kindly to yourself, you are literally re-patterning your energetic frequency.

10. Close energetic loops before rest

Before bed, place your hands on your heart and ask: “What am I still carrying that isn’t mine?” Visualize returning other people’s energy to them with love, and calling your own energy back home. This creates energetic completion and supports deeper rest.

A Reiki Reflection from My Heart

Clean energy isn’t just about what we consume; it’s about what we carry, what we absorb, what we hold onto. What we’re ready to release. So today, instead of asking: “How do I do more?” Maybe ask: “What can I gently let go of?” Because healing doesn’t always happen by adding. Sometimes it happens by clearing. And when your energy field feels lighter, safer, and more aligned. Everything else in your life begins to flow differently as well. That’s clean energy. The kind that starts within.
