There’s a word we’ve all heard before. Maybe from a magician. Maybe from childhood. Maybe whispered in play, followed by a little ta-da! moment.
Abracadabra.
But what if I told you that this word was never really about tricks?
The Meaning Behind the Magic
Long before stage lights and card tricks, abracadabra held a much deeper meaning. It’s believed to come from ancient languages like Aramaic, meaning: Avra “I create as I speak.” Kehdabra: “It will be created in my words.” Let that sink in for a moment. I create as I speak. Not someday, or when everything is perfect, but right now, through your thoughts, your words, and your beliefs.
So What Does This Mean for You?
It means your inner dialogue, your quiet thoughts, your everyday words, are shaping your reality more than you may realize. This is where mindset comes in, beautifully and powerfully. There’s a concept often taught in personal development (and by coaches like Brian Tracy) called the 7 Laws of the Mind. Think of these as gentle reminders of how your “inner magic” actually works.
The 7 Laws of the Mind (Your Real Abracadabra)
The Law of Control
You feel better about yourself when you feel in control. Even in chaos, there is always something you can choose:
your response, your mindset, your next step. Your power lives in your choices.
The Law of Cause and Effect
Nothing just “happens”; your thoughts and actions create results. If something in your life feels off, gently ask yourself: What might be contributing to this? Trust that your awareness is the first shift.
The Law of Belief
What you believe becomes your truth. If you believe you’re not enough, your mind will prove it. If you believe you’re growing, it will show you that too. Your beliefs are powerful storytellers! dial in.
The Law of Expectations
What you expect tends to unfold. When you expect things to go wrong, you prepare for it. When you expect things to work out, you stay open. Expectations quietly shape your experiences.
The Law of Attraction
You attract what you focus on most. Not in a “wish and wait” kind of way, but in a notice and respond kind of way. Your focus directs your energy.
The Law of Correspondence
Your outer world reflects your inner world. If things feel heavy outside, it’s often worth checking in within. Your life mirrors your mindset.
The Law of Concentration
What you dwell on grows. The more you think about something, the more real it feels. Where your attention goes, your energy flows.
Bringing It All Together
So where does abracadabra come in? It’s not just a word. It’s a reminder. A gentle nudge that says: Pay attention to what you’re speaking, notice what you’re thinking, and that you are shaping more than you think. Every time you say: I can’t do this, or I’m not good enough, or nothing ever works out for me, well, you’re casting a kind of spell. The beautiful part, however, is that you can change the words. You can begin again with: I am learning, I am allowed to grow, things are working out for me in ways I can't see yet.
You don’t need to be perfect at this. You don’t need to think positively every second of the day. Just the simple act of noticing your words and gently shifting them will do wonders. You’ll honestly begin to see something powerful unfold. It won’t be overnight magic or a quick illusion, but something even better, a real, authentic, beautiful change that you can feel.
Your New Meaning of Abracadabra
I create as I speak. I shape as I think. I grow as I believe. And this my friend, is the kind of magic that was never meant to stay hidden.
ABRACADABRA!
Cheers,
Coach Jo
